A Cultural Tour of the Pacifc Northwest
Tuesday, February 13, 2001. Seattle.
Such a luxurious vacation, three nights at the Westin, we can't remember the last time we slept three nights in a row at the same hotel. We are usually on the go, go, go. This morning, we had a considerable amount of work accumulating, so we had a morning at our work station on the 20th floor of the Westin's South Tower. Our reward was another seafood luncheon at Elliot's on Pier 56, after which we strolled over to the Imax Theater on Pier 59 to see for the first time the film of the Mt. St. Helen's eruption of 1980.
Sylvia had to work on her birthday, January 21st, and even cook her own dinner, but I made it up to her, I hope, by taking her to The Waterfront this evening for a superb seafood dinner on Elliott Bay, followed by a lively production at the opening night of Barry Manilow's show, "Copacabana", at the Fifth Avenue Theater.
How swiftly this vacation has gone by. Here it is Tuesday night already, we will be heading home on the Coast Starlight Wednesday morning, while my friend, Tony, will be winging his way on US Airways back to Pittsburgh. We stayed up until 1 AM talking over old times, as we go back to the 8th grade together.
Travel Tip: While it is tempting to see as many places and ride as many trains as possible on your rail vacation, there is nothing to compare with the luxury of staying over in one city for two or more nights. Here you can unpack and stay unpacked for awhile, and really get to know a place. It is a refreshing stopover.
