The Canadian (the streamliner service between Toronto and Vancouver) is a “land cruise.” VIA plans to update their 1950s-era carriages. An accessible bedroom in the round-end dome/lounge/sleeper at the end of the consist, called the Park Car, will be a welcome first for the train. Plans for the domes include “a vibrant color scheme” and new seats. Some sleeper cars will be completely reconfigured to all bedrooms, with in-suite showers and queen-sized beds. This means the single bedrooms, or roomettes, will disappear as well as the nostalgic sections. Sections are benches during the day, and at night upper and lower beds are folded down from the bulkhead and curtained off. Old movies, such as “Some Like it Hot” with Marilyn Monroe, featured this historic sleeping arrangement.
